Very few pieces in the classic rock era featured a classical guitar, fewer still featured a classical guitar with an orchestra, and only one made it to the Number 2 Position on the pop charts: Mason Williams’ “Classical Gas.” This 1968 instrumental withstood the test of popular tastes, changing styles and time itself to become one of the most memorable and durable pieces in music history. It remains a touchstone tune for fingerpicking guitarists of all persuasions.
