It's ingratiating good spirits and infectious sense of fun are blessedly irrepressible!
—Critic's Choice, California Magazine

Director Allan Arkush knows how to take advantage of music in a film.
"Get Crazy" is funny in all the right places—crammed full of raucous music and it's over before you know it.
—Joseph Bensoua, Evening Outlook

“Get Crazy” is 90 infectious minutes of non-stop mayhem and music, an exuberant, affectionate satire of the zany world of rock 'n roll. “Get Crazy” is sharp, fast, and funny, a refreshingly modest and unpretentious summer entertainment chock full of gags. Director Allan Arkush is primarily paying tribute to an even earlier Arkush alma mater, Bill Graham's Fillmore East, where Arkush worked as an usher and later as a member of the lighting crew while "Get Crazy" promo picture and original movie poster.attending NYU's film school. Zestfully mixed up in the endless slapstick shenanigans are Gail Edwards, a lovely former employee of the manic impresario Allen Goorwitz, who has returned for the evening and catches stage manager Daniel Stern's eye. The greedy rock baron, Ed Begley Jr., is eager to ruin the evening's festivities with his cohorts Fabian and Bobby Sherman. Lou Reed plays a famous recluse who decides to perform for the Saturn's anniversary but is so spaced out, he arrives after the festivities are over. Malcolm McDowell plays a vain super rock star a la Mick Jagger, while punker Lee Ving gets to throw himself around as Piggy.

—Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

Internet Question:

I thought Get Crazy was a fun, crazy Rock 'n Roll romp, and I always looked out for your movies since then. Keep working!! We miss you.

Joe G.

P.S. Tell the film owners to get it out on video. I lost the copy I made off HBO!

Dear Joe,

I get tons of inquiries about “Get Crazy” which I believe is becoming a cult classic. It had a limited video release in the 80's which copies can still be found at Amazon/eBay but regrettably, the quality is poor due to the copies being dubbed in EP. Hopefully, it will be released on DVD some time soon.

It was a fun, crazy, romp to make as well. Truly!
